MEET THE FOUNDER

Sammi Peterson (she/they)

Welcome! My name is Sammi, a queer artist, parent, and small business owner located in the Twin Cities. I’ve had a passion for art since birth, hands on experience and love for the food industry since 14, and expanded that love and hands on experience into farming at 21 years-old. The process of hand to art, seed and table have been essential part of my growth as human.

To the public eye, I am an artist, food and farm industry buff and a parent. Dig into my roots and you’ll see that there is more too me than what is at the surface; I became a young parent my senior year of high school, I am a recovering/recovered addict of well over a decade, a domestic abuse survivor and an advocate of racial equality, mental health, sexual health and reproductive rights. I only disclose this information because representation matters. It’s important to educate those who have lived a more privileged life or who have not had to live through some of the most damaging parts of life. I also share this because embracing your "messy bits" should be celebrated. The “messy bits” DO help define me and that is a beautiful thing. Those same bits define what Doll Farm really is: a place to grow and heal through art, plants, and people.

Though most of my background is in the food service industry, the farming industry connected what the service industry couldn't: a connection to the earth. It is my goal to cultivate an environment that allows us to explore any aspect of hand to seed, art, or plate. It is all about connection, it is all about healing ourselves and giving back to others.

I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for my "messy bits", and being able to heal, love, and nurture those "messy bits" through art, serving, and farming. All aspects have been so essential and vital to my healing, I hope it can one day be a similar source for anyone who may be involved.

Thank you for being a part of this dream. Thank you for being you.
